So let me ask you these simple questions

First: If you are worthy of a 3rd overall pick in the draft, should it not be easy to surpass DJ Shockley on the depth chart?

Second: If he is having trouble passing up Shockley, is he going to pass up Harrington and Redman?

Third: Does Matt Ryan start the season as the Falcons starting QB?

Fourth: If you draft a player to "Be the face of your franchise", and you let all the fans come watch your mini-camp, is it the smartest idea to have your "Franchise"" player jockeying for position against your 3rd QB

Fifth: Many people who have watched the mini-camps (as they are open to public) have said that Ryan does not really appear to be able to make any throws that Shockley cannot make" />

So far in mini-camp, Matt Ryan is battling DJ Shockley for the 3rd QB spot, behind Chris Redman and Joey Harrington

They say that he will "have to earn his stripes", and that is the reason for this

So let me ask you these simple questions

First: If you are worthy of a 3rd overall pick in the draft, should it not be easy to surpass DJ Shockley on the depth chart?

Second: If he is having trouble passing up Shockley, is he going to pass up Harrington and Redman?

Fifth: Many people who have watched the mini-camps (as they are open to public) have said that Ryan does not really appear to be able to make any throws that Shockley cannot make. Will someone finally agree with me know that choosing Ryan over Dorsey was the most retarded move of the draft, or shall you wait until Ryan ends up on the bench for the next 3 years before you will?

"Earn his stripes", eh?

Sorry, but a guy making that much money has no business being third-string. Let him play and and if Ryan embarrasses himself, so be it. Peyton Manning had a rough time as a rookie, too.

you bring up a good point in manning. however, manning was handed the starting spot as soon as he stepped into camp

would it not be the smart move, if you plan on having him be your new star, to get him in sync with your 1st team, and getting as many reps as possible?

Alot of questions. Hell, I don't know. I think he should wait like Jamarcus Russell. Patience is a virtue.

I agreed with you when the pick was made, and thought Ryan would be a bust regardless of who drafted him, but especially now.

I understand not handing him the starting job, but Atlanta needs to be showing their fans that the Vick era is over and they have someone in place that will lead them to a brighter future. Having that alleged guy sharing reps with the third team isn't going to win fans back on your side.

Quite frankly, D.J. Shockley might be the better QB.

and that shockley is better is a scary thought. i don't mind them telling your fans that the vick era is over, but wouldn't the better way to keep fans on your side would be to build a winning team? and get the player that can help you the most

if dorsey was there, no one can tell me that he would be fighting for the 3rd dt spot

Agreed completely. They should've started with the lines and built out from there. I made a bigger post about that somewhere, but I'm too lazy to go find it.

Personally, I think they should of went Defense with there 1st pick.
There were alot of good Qb's in the draft.Ryan will be the 2nd string
behined Redman in my opinion.

redman showed flashes of light at the end of the season last year

a team with the holes that they had last year, should have done something to fix that. i'm sorry, but if your offense is never on the field because the other team can run over you at will, it doesn't matter who your QB is

lol matt ryan is not battling for a 3rd qb spot because they picked him in round 1, he will definitely make the team even if it is #3. if you are the falcons you need to be real with yourself: harrington redman or shockley wont get u anywhere, may as well throw the kid on the field.

i understand that, but flacco has been stupendous for the ravens. he is playing 1st team, and completing 50 yard passes to mark clayton. even ray lewis is singing praises for the guy

right there shows that a player can step in, and do decent in mini-camp

matt ryan is struggling to keep up with dj shockley. my question is doesn't this seem to be somewhat of the opposite of what the falcons have been swearing by since the draft?

maybe the falcons coaches suck? lol. i mean thats the most likely scenario... most people thought flacco was just as good if not better than ryan anyway. give the kid a few more weeks and maybe a few preseason games.

i realize i might be haste on this subject, but this news was something that made me laugh. i don't think ryan will be anything special, and i know it's still incredibly early, but it just shows to me that maybe the falcons don't have the faith in him that they exuded earlier

that's excellent. i think they have done some good things this offseason. it was probably better for them having no money to spend. i see that d being a force next year

did you hear about the 86 man brawl at the ravens mini-camp the other day?

it was hilarious. i mean, you never really hear about the whole team getting involved from one little scuffle between 2 players

i personally think it helps build team camaraderie, and puts things more into perspective once the season starts

i'm sure it is an attention getter more than anything. i'm sure he'll do better as long as he can handle the speed of the game at that level.

flacco for the ravens has been playing 1st team, and kicking ass. the team is doing nothing but praising the guy. and the ryan is playing 3rd team, and the team has doubts

i am starting to think that the falcons are trying to lose
