did the pain just come out of nowhere or did you fall awkwardly or something?

yeah u should see someone about it. it depends on where it hurts. on the inside or outside of knee? is it the ligments that hurt or the bone? i remember in 9th grade i had a small fracture in the front of my knee bone where my quad muscles attached to the front of the knee.... doctor said it was cuz i was playing ball too much and probably cutting too hard also.

You should buy two extra large knee braces a la Patrick Ewing. Heck, if you wear them u may get the Ewing treatment from the refs too...they will let you walk all the way across the lane before your layup.

Sounds like Osgood-Schlatter... you gotta go to a doctor man and get it looked at, and they'll tell ya what to do.

I had it growing up myself, and it truly is a pain in the ass. Hurts like hell. It's basically a joint problem that really has no prescription to cure, you just have to let it pass by. Eventually though if it doesn't go away by the time you're body is close to, or done developing, you may need surgery.

I figure you play sports and all, so you can't really just "stay off it" for the period that you have it, but make sure when you're done with activities and what not, to put some ice on it, and rest them. Try and do all you can to avoid major pressure on your knees, and sooner or later it will go away. In the time being though, you're gonna be in pain, but there's really nothing you can do about it. Sorry kid

my son is also 14 but he is 6'2. he is also having knee pain; it is a combination of growing pain and tenditis. he plays basketball, volleyball, and weight lifting. somedays he has 3 practices. after playing he needs to ice down, before activity take ibuprofen and warm the knee up. but to really get it to stop hurting is rest! spring break is coming up so that means he has 10 days off of all activity.
but to be on the safe side, consult your doctor.
