But the Oakland Athletics have a much better shot of making the post-season than 4 "favorites" to get there: Yankees, Mariners, Tigers, and Indians.

"Rebuilding Year" eh...LMAO...Billy Beane continues to prove how useless the media can be...

Ha ha yeah the A's don't have rebuilding years, they have rebuilding weeks mixed in with a few bad seasons where they're just not on their game. They have an uncanny ability to know when its time to let a player go (see Giambi, Zito, Hudson, etc.) and have the best scouts in the MLB. They're never gonna win a WS with that budget IMO, but they can contend for the playoffs every year....fuckers.

yes they will win the WS with that budget, is just matter of time until it happens. IMO

They never seem to get past the first round of the playoffs though. They need a better lineup I think. Their rotation is sick but the #4 and #5 starters don't really come into play in a playoff series and other teams' top 3 can compare to Oakland's just fine.

hahaha...I like the added fuckers at the end

Ha ha I hate the A's so much. I swear they could be winless all year and still sweep the Mariners. Its just one of those teams that always has our number.

They're playing well but it's a long season. Once the LAA get Lackey back it'll get interesting. Seattle has been a major disappointment. I thought with Bedard they would take a step forward. I wonder if Ichiro regrets signing that extension?

Yea, but what you got to love is how they are doing so well so early...which they NEVER DO!!! They're always like in 3rd place at the all-star break, and go 22-6 in August, or something like that, so if they can keep this up, we're looking at 100-105 wins!

Yea you're right. They have had some rediculous months after the all-star break. They have some nice young talent. Hopefully when they move into their new stadium they can spend some money around those guys. The A's and the Twins have the best scouting/front office's in the game IMO. The Sox scout well too but they spend so much money that ppl overlook their minor league products (Ellsbury, Youk, Pedroia, Papelbon, Buchholz, Lester, Masterson, Lowrie,ETC)

That statement is 100% inaccurate......you don't got to love it, lol.

Beane might still trade Blanton and Street, which would put a damper on that bold prediction.

I doubt it...all of the trades he does favors him...and he could also hang on to them, and get 4 first round picks next year

How would he get 4 first round draft picks next year by keeping them?

posted on 9/5/08

I think most of that is leftover speculation from the offseason. I think he'll hold on to both of them, especially Street, if they can keep winning like this. Blanton I could maybe see getting traded still as somebody's likely going to need an extra SP to keep them in contention and they could end up getting a pretty sweet offer for him.

If you lose a Type A Free Agent, you get a 1st round draft pick, and another compensation pick at the end of the 1st round

Blanton and Street are only in their 4th year of service time. That means this year plus the next 2 years and by their production are going to start getting exspensive in a hurry. The A's could very well ship either out of town.

No he was early in his arbitration years. This is what his 3rd full season? It escalates quickly after year 4 I believe. Thats why teams are signing the Tulowitzki's and Cano's et. al. early. Give them money up front and buy out a couple of those bigger arbitration and early FA years.

But none of them will be FA, unless I am wrong, because they have not served 6 pro seasons.

And yes, we will be receiving some pick(s) this draft in the sandwich round.

Yup, go look at my predictions in the little game Jesse had...I think I was the ONLY person to put the A's ontop of the West at the break...and they seem to say every other year is a rebuilding year, but all they do is bring in talent on top of talent. As for the Street Blanton trade talk, I think Street has a much better chance of getting dealt than Blanton, mainly because of Santiago Casilla...then again, Gaudin is in the pen now and so he could take Blanton's spot. But like you said, if Beane's going to trade them, he's going to get a fair trade and then some!
