I was listening to Sports Talk Radio on my car while I was driving to breakfast. The Sportscaster mentioned that so far this season there have been a lot less Home Runs hit in both leagues. I have a "wild and wacky" theory that the reason for less Home Runs is the crackdown on the use of Steroids.
I feel that a great deal more players used "performance enhancing " substances, even if it was not Steroids. Hitting Home Runs mean more $ for the players and more Home Runs mean more "fannies" in the seats. Also the records that the players attain can be mind boggling. It's just an idea I had and I want to put it out there for all the Root Zooers to mull over.

I think you're right. A lot, hopefully all, of players have stopped using steroids. A lot of home runs used to be hit because pitchers harder and hitters were stronger.

Yeah, what a crazy thought. More people than just Barry Bonds have used roids. Root for honesty!

Cobble, about A-Rod, don't forget he's always been EXTREMELY strong. He was a QB in high school and in junior high, and he could throw that football. He's been strong, and there is no proof of him taking steroids....his body looks the exact same and he's been producing the same numbers for the last 10 years

Honestly, I've seen great athletes become even better with roids, just look at Barry Bonds. He was hitting 30 homeruns and stealing 30 bases a season before any of the roids issues were a factor, so it's not unlikely that another great athlete could have done the same, or is doing the same, or will do the same.

So do you believe that A-Rod is using roids, or are you just saying there is a possibility?

I would say that believing and saying there is a possibility are the same thing, but knowing is different.

Until there is a federal case, nobody will believe me unless they too have some frame of reference on which to call upon for an educated guess. I suspected many players, including Roger Clemens, long before being brought to trial, but who believes someone when they tell you that your favorite player cheated? Nobody, at least not until it's federally prosecuted.

Not only are you right, its the ONLY explanation that is noteworthy.

For those who said steroids dont help i mean just take a look at what siclown is talkin about, production is down and why? Exactly...

Take particular notice that A-Rod's production is nowhere near what it was at this point last season. Just a heads up.

Thats 1 yr to another for a guy who has done it for 10+ yrs straight...so thats not really legit. And last season he started off at such a ridiculous pace that it would be practically impossible for that to happen again.

Yeah, unless he did a cycle of steroids right before the beginning of the season like he did last year.

Take notice his stat drop off last year, right around the time when steroids begin to wear off.

Your can think whatever you want, but if you think ARod juiced or does juice you are just making yourself look bad.

LOL! You said that my thinking AROD does roids makes me look bad, but you're in a thread that points out the use of roids in baseball, and you can't make that connection? I think it's you who looks like the fool.

The entire league was juicing i guess right? The crackdown on steroids began before last season and ARod crushed. 10 of the last 10 yrs he has had over 35 HR's at least, his HR total has never been outlandish (ie Bonds) but its always high...the guy is just great, he is one of the greatest to play the game. The only reason you believe he is juicing is b/c you dont like him, you cant make 1 single valid point against him that would lead anyone to believe he truly is....

Oh, and by the way, I'm a Yankees fan, so don't think I'm just bashing them. You'll learn once you get older, and actually know people who play semi-professional or collegiate sports. In my case, I knew about this at the high school level. Live and learn buddy, AROD has used roids, and I can probably be certain that at least 35-50% of the MLB has as well.

You will learn. Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGuire, Alex Rodriguez, Jose Canseco, Raphael Palmerio, Albert Pujols, and others. Do you know anyone who has used steroids? If so, which steroids? If you don't know anyone who has used steroids, and really don't know what to look for, who are you kidding acting like you know better than someone who does?
