i don't think there's any argument who the current best postseason pitcher is. beckett has a 1.73 postseason ERA, with 82 SO's in 72 innings. now that's dominant!

is anyone right now even close?

I would have to throw Mariano Rivera in there. He is always dominant in the postseason, I just don't know his exact stats. Beckett is great too, as is Curt Schilling, no matter how much I hate to say that.

very true, not sure how i overlooked him lol. still, i'd say the work of someone over 7 innings is more valuable than that of someone who pitches at most 2 innings a game

I see what you are saying with that, but Rivera has thrown a lot of postseason innings in his career, probably more than Beckett and Schilling. I am not sure on these stats, but your point is valid. I just do not think Rivera can be left out of the conversation even if he is not the best.

i agree he should be in the conversation, in fact he's been SO good as a closer that I might even say he's the second best postseason pitcher out there even though i don't think he has nearly the impact of beckett

that's just insane, but I think he's fading, he's one of the best, but no longer the best

Curt Schilling is pretty damn good as well. 11-2 with a 2.23 ERA and 120 K in 133 IP. Based on how well he did last year, I'd have a ton of faith in him, and might go as far as to say he's close to Beckett.

It's safe to say no one tops Beckett though.

Right now it is Beckett. Every year someone steps up and becomes the dominate one.

Well despite ERA Roy Oswalt has NEVER lost in the playoffs. 4-0 in 46.67 IP w/ a 3.66 ERA.

John Smoltz is 15-4, 4 svs, and a 2.65 ERA in 207 IP.

Curt Schilling is 11-2, 2.23 ERA in 133.33 IP.

Just throwin out some names. I hate Beckett, but he's frickin amazing in the playoffs.

right now? yes he is. but as far as career numbers. orlando hernandez and curt schiling, pedro martinez have all played well in the postseason. i think it is ironic that they all play or have played for the red sox, yankees or the mets in their careers. teams that have been sucessful recently
