	The Heat announced Friday that Cook has separated his left, non-shooting, shoulder, meaning he won't be available for the five-games-in-five-days summer league schedule starting Monday in Orlando. Cook - who suffered the injury Thursday night - will be sidelined 2-4 weeks, a significant blow because the Heat hoped the second-year guard could use a strong summer showing as a springboard into the 2008-09 season. Cook averaged 8.8 points and 3.0 rebounds while starting 19 of 59 games for the Heat last season.

	Beasley, the No. 2 pick in last week's NBA draft, slightly cracked his sternum in a collision with a teammate earlier this week, yet still could be with the Miami Heat when the team opens summer league play Monday. Beasley was inadvertently elbowed by a teammate in a defensive drill on Wednesday, about 45 minutes into Miami's first summer practice. He was originally diagnosed with a chest bruise, and tests further revealed the small sternum fracture - something that typically doesn't show up on an X-ray and simply heals over time. Miami said Beasley continued participating in non-contact drills with the team Friday and may be cleared for some contact Saturday.

	Chris Duhon verbally agreed to a deal with the New York Knicks on Friday, the point guard and his agent told The Sporting News. "I am just excited, I am ready to get to work for the Knicks," said Duhon, the former Duke player who averaged 6.9 points and 4.5 assists in four seasons for Chicago. Duhon's agent, Kevin Bradbury, told The Sporting News that he couldn't comment on terms of the deal, but the magazine cited an unidentified source in its Web site report as saying Duhon will get a two-year deal starting at the full mid-level exception.

	Arenas has agreed to re-sign with the Washington Wizards for $111 million over six years, essentially taking millions less so that his team could have more financial flexibility, two newspapers reported Thursday. Arenas told the Washington Times and Washington Post that he was offered a maximum deal in the neighborhood of $127 million on Tuesday, the first day of the free agency period. Arenas has proven to be one of the most dynamic players in the league when healthy, but two knee operations caused him to miss most of the last season. He has averaged 22.8 points, 5.5 assists and 4.2 rebounds in his seven-season NBA career.

	Paul and the Hornets have reached a contract agreement that could keep the All-Star point guard with the team for at least the next four seasons. Lance Young, Paul's agent, said Paul agreed Thursday to a three-year extension with a player's option for a fourth year. The total value of the deal is $68 million. Paul has one season remaining on his current contract.

	Beasley returned to practice with the Miami Heat on Thursday, one day after the No. 2 overall pick in last week's NBA draft was knocked out of his first official summer-league workout with a chest bruise. Beasley was inadvertently elbowed by a teammate during a defensive drill about 45 minutes after Miami opened its summer-league camp Wednesday. He was taken to a doctor for evaluation and treatment, and did not participate in practices Wednesday night or Thursday morning. Beasley returned for a non-contact session Thursday afternoon, the team said. He is listed as day-to-day, and is still expected to take part in summer league, which opens Monday in Orlando.

	The Magic signed Lee, their first-round draft pick, on Thursday. The 6-foot-5 guard from Western Kentucky will receive about $1 million in each of his first two pro seasons. NBA rookie salaries are preset by a league scale based on when they were chosen. The Magic took Lee with the No. 22 pick in last week's draft. Lee is expected to play next week in the six-team NBA summer league the Magic are hosting.

	Green signed a one-year, minimum-salary contract with the Mavericks on Thursday. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound swingman is known mostly for his exploits in the last two dunk contests, winning it in 2007 and finishing second to Dwight Howard this year. In games that count, he has career averages of 8.1 points and 2.2 rebounds. He's played for Boston, Minnesota and Houston in his three-year career since being drafted 18th overall coming out of high school.

	Smith wasted no time taking advantage of his restricted free-agent status, spending Wednesday visiting the Philadelphia 76ers - a franchise with plenty of cap room to make a big offer. Smith averaged a career-best 17.2 points in 81 regular-season games and 15.7 in seven playoff contests with the Hawks in 2007-08. The 22-year-old Smith toured the city and visited the Wachovia Center with Sixers officials, who would like to woo the forward away from Atlanta with an offer sheet too expensive for the Hawks to match. As he's a restricted free agent, the Hawks can match any offer made to the 6-foot-9, 235-pound Smith. The Sixers have about $11 million in salary cap space available and could use all of it to offer Smith a five-year contract.

	Dallas agreed to a one-year, minimum-salary contract on Wednesday with Gerald Green, a 22-year-old former slam dunk champion who had been unemployed since March. Green passed a physical Wednesday and paperwork to make the deal official is being finalized. Since he wasn't on a team when the season ended, he can be signed at any time. He was drafted 18th overall by Boston in 2005 and won the dunk contest in 2007. He went to Minnesota in the Kevin Garnett trade, then was sent to Houston a few days after finishing second in this year's dunk contest. The Rockets used him in one game, then released him.

	Diop agreed Wednesday to a $31 million, five-year contract with the Mavericks, according to a person close to the negotiations who requested anonymity because NBA rules prevent the deal from being signed until next week. Diop is a former lottery pick who was considered a bust after four years in Cleveland. The Mavs signed him for the 2005-06 season and he wound up splitting the center job with Erick Dampier as Dallas reached the NBA finals. He and Dampier shared the job against the following season, when the Mavericks won a franchise-record 67 games. He was then traded to the New Jersey Nets in the blockbuster trade for Jason Kidd in February.

	Paul left the New Orleans Hornets training center on Wednesday afternoon without a new contract extension in place, but his agent remained optimistic the deal would be completed without much trouble - even if it took longer than anticipated. Lance Young, senior director of the sports management and marketing company Octagon that represents Paul, flew into New Orleans on Wednesday morning and spent the day with Paul and Hornets general manager Jeff Bower. Paul left abruptly Wednesday afternoon without making any comment. Paul is trying to decide between a four-year deal worth $68 million or a five-year extension worth $87 million, Young said.

	Perkins has undergone surgery on his left shoulder. The Celtics said Perkins had arthroscopic surgery Wednesday at New England Baptist Hospital. Perkins was nagged by the shoulder late in the season and aggravated the injury in the finals against the Los Angeles Lakers, causing him to miss Game 5 of the series.

The Heat said Beasley, the No.2 overall pick in last week's NBA draft, was being taken for evaluation and had no further details on the extent of the injury. Beasley and the Heat are scheduled to begin play in the Orlando summer league on Monday.

Last season, the 29-year-old Watson averaged career highs in points (10.7), assists (6.8), rebounds (2.9) and minutes (29.1). During his seven-year NBA career, Watson has averaged 7.4 points and 4.5 assists in 529 games.

Davis refused to directly confirm his agent's declaration to The Los Angeles Times that they have agreed to sign a five-year, $65 million deal with Golden State's Pacific Division rivals, but he left no doubt about his upcoming move back to his native Southern California. Davis can't sign with the Clippers until July 9, but he already was speaking about the Warriors in the past tense Tuesday night.

Barry, a career .407 3-point shooter, averaged 7.1 points in 31 games with the Spurs last season and 5.2 points during the playoffs.

	Paul's agent plans to travel to New Orleans on Wednesday with the intention of completing a contract extension that would keep the All-Star and Team USA point guard with the Hornets for an additional three to five years. Paul is seeking the maximum pay allowable under the league's collective bargaining agreement, or about 25 percent of the NBA salary cap with 10 percent raises going forward. Such a deal would pay Paul from $60 million to more than $80 million, depending on the length of the contract. Last season, Paul's averages of 11.6 assists and 2.7 steals per game led the NBA.

	Calderon reached a "preliminary agreement" Tuesday to remain with the Toronto Raptors for another season. The 26-year-old Spanish guard wrote on his Web site that his agent and the Raptors had reached a deal. However, Toronto cannot officially announce the signing until July 9. Calderon, who was in Madrid on Tuesday to meet with his Spain teammates ahead of the Olympic Games, averaged 11.2 points and 8.3 assists in 82 games last season. He has averaged 8.7 points and 6.1 assists in 223 regular-season games over the last three seasons with the Raptors.
