	The Red Sox have removed Lowell from their first-round postseason roster on because of a right hip strain. He would be ineligible to play in the AL championship series if the Red Sox advance past their first-round opponent, the Los Angeles Angels. The World Series MVP, who also has a torn labrum in his right hip, was replaced on the active roster by infielder Gil Velazquez, who made his major league debut on Sept. 25. Lowell was 0-for-8 in two games during the series against the Angels.

	Estes cleared outright waivers and chose to become a free agent. The 35-year-old Estes, who didn't pitch in the majors in 2007 while rehabbing from reconstructive elbow surgery, began the season at Triple-A Portland before his contract was purchased by the Padres on May 8. He was 2-3 with a 4.74 ERA in nine appearances, including eight starts. Estes was sidelined for more than two months with a broken left thumb.

	Hayhurst was claimed off waivers by the Toronto Blue Jays. Hayhurst, 27, made his big league debut with the Padres on Aug. 23. He was 0-2 with a 9.72 ERA in 10 games, including three starts.

	Bard cleared outright waivers and chose to become a free agent. Bard was limited to 57 games because of injuries. He sprained his left ankle when Albert Pujols slid into him at home plate on May 21, sidelining him until late July. He also was sidelined in August with a strained right triceps. Bard hit .202 with one homer and 16 RBIs.

	Burrell broke out of his slump in a big way with two homers - including a three-run shot - on Sunday to lead the Phillies to a 6-2 victory over Milwaukee that clinched their first trip to the NLCS since 1993. Burrell was 0-for-8 in the first three games of the series, dropping his career postseason batting average to .105 (2-for-19) before Sunday's breakout.

	In his first career postseason start, Blanton held Milwaukee to one run and five hits while striking out seven in six innings of a 6-2 victory. The burly right-hander, acquired in July from Oakland, hadn't pitched since Sept. 26 and was making only his second career postseason appearance. But he was in a groove from the minute he took the mound, thanks partly to a leadoff home run from Jimmy Rollins.

Ellsbury is 6-for-14 with five RBIs in the series, and 15-for-39 (.385) with nine RBIs and 10 runs scored in 14 career playoff games dating to 2007.

Napoli entered the game 1-for-10 with six strikeouts in five career playoff games - all against the Red Sox. He drove in three runs and reached base four times Sunday.

	Danks helped keep Chicago's season alive again on Sunday, holding Tampa Bay to three runs while striking out seven in 6 2-3 innings of a 5-3 victory in Game 3 of the teams' AL division series. Danks is 2-0 in potential elimination games this season. He pitched eight innings of two-hit ball on short rest on Tuesday as the White Sox clinched the AL Central title with a 1-0 victory over Minnesota in a tiebreaker.

	Drew, who hit a go-ahead, two-run homer in Boston's 7-5 win in Game 2, returned to right field for Monday night's Game 4 against the Los Angeles Angels after not starting Sunday because of a bad back. Drew is batting .311 with two homers, 14 RBIs and nine runs scored in 17 postseason games spanning his first two seasons with the Red Sox.

The Red Sox led the series 2-1 after the Angels won 5-4 win in 12 innings Sunday night. Lowell, who has a torn labrum in his right hip, walked in the 10th inning. Alex Cora pinch ran for him. "He's hurting today," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. Kevin Youkilis moved from first base to Lowell's spot at third base and Mark Kotsay was down to play. If the Red Sox replace Lowell on the roster during this series, he would be ineligible for the AL championship series.

	Backe was among 10 people arrested during a brawl with police at a weekend wedding reception in a Galveston hotel bar. The bride's father, 19-year-old brother and a FEMA coordinator were also arrested. The 30-year-old Backe, a member of the wedding party, ignored police orders to back away from the fight, and struggled with officers who attempted to handcuff him, according to police reports. Backe was charged with interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest, said Joel H. Bennett, Galveston County assistant criminal district attorney. He was released on $1,500 bond.

	Weeks had surgery Monday to repair a cartilage tear in his left knee and is expected to be ready for spring training. Weeks had part of the damaged meniscus removed by team physician Dr. William Raasch. Weeks will begin rehabilitation at home this week. A first-round draft pick by Milwaukee in 2003, Weeks hit .234 with 14 homers and 46 RBIs in 129 games in his fifth season. Weeks slumped and spent most of September in a reserve role to veteran Ray Durham.

	The free-agent-to-be said that happiness, not money, will play a major role in where he pitches next season. Sabathia said he hasn't made any decisions on his future. But he certainly added lots of zeros to his potential pay day after Cleveland traded him to Milwaukee for four prospects on July 7. The reigning AL Cy Young winner pitched seven complete games in the NL and made four consecutive starts on three days' rest, including a complete game in a 3-1 victory over the Cubs that gave Milwaukee the NL wild card.

	Drew, who hit the decisive home run for Boston in the second game of the playoff series against the Los Angeles Angels, was not in the lineup for Game 3 on Sunday night because of his ailing back. 	Kuroda worked 6 1-3 shutout innings in the first postseason outing of his career, earning the victory as the Dodgers advanced to the NLCS with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Kuroda has been impressive lately, allowing only three runs in his last 25 1-3 innings dating to the regular season. He also dominated Philadelphia - a possible opponent in the NL championship series - this year, allowing four hits and two runs in 13 innings in a pair of starts against the Phillies this season.
