Berard will attempt to make an NHL club on a tryout contract, after being invited to training camp with the hiladelphia Flyers. The 31-year-old Berard was the No. 1 overall draft pick of the Ottawa Senators in 1995, but refused to sign and was traded to the New York Islanders.

Wild president and general manager Doug Risebrough and assistant GM for hockey operations Tom Lynn traveled to Gaborik's home in Trencin, Slovakia, last week as a starting point for the negotiating process on a contract extension. Gaborik had career highs in goals (42) and points (83) in 77 games for the Wild in 2007-08, but finished with just one assist in six playoff contests.
