Khabibulin didn't play in any preseason games and after clearing waivers last Tuesday could be sent to Rockford of the AHL when NHL rosters are finalized this week

Chicago GM Dale Tallon said he is talking to other teams about trading the 35-year-old goalie with the hopes of shedding Khabibulin's $6.75 million salary for the coming season.

Naslund had an assist in the Ranger' 2-1 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday in Sweden.

Naslund has one goal and an assist in his first two games with New York since signing as a free agent with New York in July.

The defenseman had a goal and an assist for the Rangers, who rallied to beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 Sunday and swept their two-game, season-opening series in Europe.

Redden, who signed a six-year, $39 million free-agent deal with the Rangers during the summer, tied it with a power-play goal 3:47 into the second period when he blasted a shot past goalie Olaf Kolzig off a pass from Markus Naslund.

Zubov is recovering from hip surgery and will be reevaluated toward the end of October, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

The defenseman should remain productive when he returns - he had 35 points in 46 games last year - but the 38-year-old is an injury risk. His 2007-08 season was cut short due to foot surgery.

Tarnasky, acquired by Nashville on Monday, has a broken thumb, and it's unclear if he'll be ready when the Predators begin their season Friday in St. Louis.

Tarnasky, mostly known as a checking-line center, had six goals and four assists in 80 games with Tampa Bay last season.

Ortmeyer is on his way back to healthy after learning that he no longer has a blood clot in his leg, the Tennesseean reported.

Ortmeyer still may have a ways to go, as he needs surgery to remove a clot filter and has to get off his blood-thinning medication. The clot formed after knee surgery last spring.

Foster is targeting a December return from a broken femur that ended his season in March. He skated for the first time early in training camp, but still has a way to go.

Foster had seven goals and 12 assists last season before the injury in mid-March.

Pothier is making progress as he works his way back from postconcussion syndrome, but it's still unclear when he might be back, the Washington Times reported.

Pothier hasn't played since Jan. 3. He had 14 points in 38 games last year.

Rathje is on the long-term injury, where he's spent most of the past two seasons. There's a good chance Rathje will retire, but no decision has been made yet.

Rathje has 30 goals and 150 assists in his 13-year NHL career.

Sullivan missed all of last season due to a back injury, and is far from returning to the ice. He hasn't played a game since February 2007.

Sullivan was a consistent 20-goal scorer prior to his injury despite his small stature, but he'll have a hard time working his way back from such a serious injury.

Hatcher will start the season on the injured list because of a knee problem that could jeopardize his career. The Flyers said they made the move out of respect for Hatcher to allow him the time to rehab or decide if he wants to retire.

Hatcher was held to 44 games last season, missing 10 games with a broken right tibia and the rest with a sore right knee.

Tanabe was a no-show for training camp and is still dealing with a concussion he sustained last season, the Raleigh News and Observer reported.

The Hurricanes tried to buy out his contract, prompting the NHL Players' Association to file a grievance, but either way it doesn't look like Tanabe will be back on the ice anytime soon.

Sillinger is trying to come back from hip surgery in February. It's not clear if he'll be ready when the Islanders open their season Friday at New Jersey.

Sillinger had 14 goals and 12 assists in 53 games with the Islanders last season.

Sykora sat out the Penguins' season opener Saturday in Sweden against the Senators, and is likely to miss the team's game Sunday as well due to a groin problem.

Sykora will be a key figure in the Penguins' attack with the losses of free agents Ryan Malone and Marian Hossa.

McDonald finished the preseason with an NHL-best 13 points, scoring his fourth goal and adding an assist to help the Blues beat the Atlanta Thrashers 4-1 on Saturday night.

McDonald will try to extend his recent offensive surge into the regular season. The center had 18 goals and 34 assists for 52 points in 82 games in 2007-08, a season he spent between Anaheim and St. Louis.
