	Ginobili had arthroscopic surgery Wednesday to repair a ligament injury in his left ankle. The Spurs said Wednesday that the surgery in Los Angeles had gone well and Ginobili will be in a splint and on crutches for three weeks. Then, his rehabilitation schedule will be determined after his ankle is re-evaluated. The injury hobbled Ginobili during the NBA playoffs, particularly during the Western Conference finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. He was cleared to play for Argentina in the Olympics, but re-aggravated the injury during a game against the United States. An MRI taken last week showed no more damage but no improvement, setting up the need for the arthroscopic surgery. Ginobili led the Spurs with 19.5 points per game last season.

Both the Heat and Chalmers' agent, Sam Goldfeder, confirmed to The Associated Press that Chalmers left the program. Neither would divulge the reasons why the former Kansas star, who hit the overtime-forcing jumper in the Jayhawks' win over Memphis in the national championship game five months ago, was asked to depart early. In addition to returning to the symposium in 2009, Chalmers may be facing a fine and a suspension from the NBA.

He started last season with Cleveland before being sent to Seattle in a three-team trade in February. Seattle, now Oklahoma City, waived Marshall in August. 	The Heat signed Magloire, a former All-Star center, on Tuesday, four days after agreeing to basic terms with the nine-year veteran. The 6-foot-11, 265-pound Magloire has averaged 8.6 points and 7.2 rebounds in his career. He spent his first five seasons with the Charlotte and New Orleans Hornets, and has now been with five teams since the start of the 2005-06 season - Milwaukee, Portland, New Jersey, Dallas and now Miami. Magloire averaged 1.8 points in 31 games last season with New Jersey and Dallas. His best season with 2003-04, when he averaged 13.6 points and 10.3 rebounds for New Orleans and earned his lone All-Star selection.

	Deng will play in Great Britain's European Championship qualifying games after the national association bumped up the insurance to cover his lucrative NBA contract. Deng signed a new deal with the Bulls last month reportedly worth up to $80 million. British Basketball had been struggling to pay the insurance for the 23-year-old Sudanese-born player, who moved to London as a child to escape the conflict in his homeland. However, the association said Saturday it had "reluctantly" agreed to increase his coverage, meaning Deng can play against Israel in Tel Aviv on Wednesday and against the Czech Republic in London next Saturday.

Ellis, who got a six-year contract extension worth $66 million from the Warriors this summer, sprained his ankle and tore a deltoid ligament while working out at his home in Jackson, Miss., Warriors spokesman Raymond Ridder said. Ellis underwent surgery Wednesday to repair the ligament. Ellis' ankle will be immobilized for six weeks, followed by at least six weeks of off-court rehab before the guard can return to basketball workouts. Ellis is expected to play a major role this season for the Warriors after Baron Davis' abrupt departure for the Los Angeles Clippers as a free agent. He averaged 20.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.4 assists last season, all career bests.

	The Celtics signed Giddens on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5 point guard, the 30th pick in the draft, averaged 16.3 points and 8.8 rebounds for New Mexico during his senior season. Giddens said he has matured in the last few years. He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor battery charge after being stabbed at a bar fight in May 2005 while playing for Kansas. He transferred to New Mexico, where he was suspended twice in his first season.

	The Suns acquired Singletary from the Rockets on Monday in exchange for D.J. Strawberry. Singletary was the 42nd overall pick in the 2008 draft by the Sacramento Kings, who sent him to Houston in the Ron Artest deal. The 6-foot guard was a member of the Kings' Las Vegas Summer League team, where he averaged 5.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists playing in each of the club's five games. A four-year standout at Virginia, Singletary was a three-time All-ACC selection who led his team in scoring with 19.8 points per game last season.
