Abreu is hitting .301 with 15 homers and 84 RBIs in 136 games. He was felt soreness in the wrist when he started pregame drills on Thursday.

He had been sidelined by an injured left knee, which will likely need surgery after the season. "He's hung in there for us," Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. Matsui, though, said he has had no issues with his knee since rejoining the team. Girardi said Matsui is expected to play in the final six contests of the Yankees' 10-game trip.

His two-run drive down the left-field line in the ninth inning Wednesday was historic in another way, too, becoming baseball's first-ever instant replay review. It was upheld as a home run, making him 9-for-16 (.563) with three homers and 10 RBIs in the last four games.
