	The Baltimore Orioles acquired help for their beleaguered pitching staff Friday, getting minor leaguer Brian Bass from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named or cash. The Orioles selected Bass' contract from Triple-A Norfolk and added him to their major league roster. The 26-year-old Bass was 3-4 with a 4.87 ERA in 44 games with Minnesota this season, but the right-hander had not pitched for the Twins since mid-August. A series of injuries and poor starts by the Orioles left the team desperate for fresh arms. Baltimore didn't have a starting pitcher for Wednesday's game against Boston and was forced to use five relievers in a 5-4 defeat.

	Estes returned to the Padres' rotation and held Milwaukee to one run in six innings of a 5-2 win on Thursday night. Estes made his first start since May 28 because of a broken thumb he suffered when he fell on the tunnel stairs between the team's clubhouse and the dugout May 31. He's 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA in six games - five starts - this year.

	Snider hit his first career home run and went 3-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs to help Toronto beat Minnesota 9-0 on Thursday. It hasn't taken Snider long to find success in the major leagues. The rookie, a first-round pick in the 2006 draft, has seven hits in 15 at-bats since being called up.

	Litsch threw a four-hit shutout and the Toronto Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep with a 9-0 victory over the Twins on Thursday night. In what has been an up-and-down season, Litsch has been back on his game lately. He's 2-1 with a 0.94 ERA in his last four starts, pitching at least six shutout innings in three of those outings. He only struck out three on Thursday, however, and has just 71 strikeouts in 143 2-3 innings this season.

	Martis held Atlanta to two runs and four hits in five innings of a 2-0 loss in his major-league debut Thursday. Martis walked five and struck out two. "I think I did pretty well. Five innings. I'm happy with it," said Martis, who pitched for the Netherlands in the Olympics and went 1-2 with a 3.02 ERA in seven starts with Triple-A Columbus before his promotion. "It was exciting. After the first inning, I was feeling more comfortable."

Still, it's been a struggle for Guillen these last few months, as he's batting .188 with just 12 walks in his last 56 games. He's also had multiple behavioral problems.

	Parr held Washington to two hits in six innings of a 2-0 win in his major-league debut Thursday. The 22-year-old right-hander didn't allow a runner past second base. "What a night he had," manager Bobby Cox said. "He's sneaky quick. He doesn't light up the radar gun, but he's got a little looping curve and a changeup. I was impressed. It's a great way to break in." Parr, who was promoted Tuesday, went 5-3 with a 3.23 ERA with Triple-A Richmond, including 3-0 with a 0.96 ERA in his last three starts. "I didn't want to change anything," Parr said.

	After going 0-for-5 in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against Kansas City, Sweeney was 3-for-4 with three doubles and three RBIs in the nightcap. The A's still got swept, 5-4 and 9-6. Sweeney hopes Thursday night's effort will help him snap out of a slump. He was 14-for-72 (.194) in his previous 17 games, also spending time on the disabled list during that time with a thumb injury.

	Rogers was removed from Thursday's 7-1 loss to the Angels after he gave up four straight singles starting the third inning, his shortest start since he gave up seven runs and got just two outs at Cleveland on July 25, 2006. The 43-year-old left-hander, who allowed six runs and eight hits in two innings, has lost three straight starts and seven of eight. "I'm not tired. I feel fine," Rogers said. "I had no reason for failing. I went out there and didn't get it done. That's the only way to look at it."

	Santana struck out eight in 7 1-3 innings, allowing one run and six hits and moving to 15-5 as the Angels beat Detroit 7-1 on Thursday. Perhaps the most impressive part of Santana's season has been his road numbers. After going 1-10 with an 8.38 ERA on the road in 2007, he's now 10-2 with a 3.16 mark in 16 road starts this year. He's 4-0 with a 2.31 ERA overall since the beginning of August.

	Iguchi is expected to return to the Phillies as they make a run towards the playoffs this September. Though Iguchi will give a boost for the remainder of the regular season, according to MLB rules, he'll be ineligible to play in the post-season. He'll be mainly used as an infield fill-in and a pinch-hitter.

	McLouth hit his 24th home run of the season in the Pirates' 8-6 loss to Cincinnati on Thursday. It was the second homer in six games for McClouth, who hadn't hit one in his previous 22 contests. Overall, he's four shy of the franchise record for homers by a center fielder, set by Brian Giles in 1999.
